Ewen has a diverse background that consists of researching, teaching, coaching, and community involvement. He completed an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Alberta in 2009, following it up with a Bachelor of Education degree specializing in Secondary Education in 2011. After 4 years of coaching competitive swimming and teaching junior high and high school science and mathematics, Ewen joined the Action in Complex Environments Lab and the Bionic Limbs for Improved Natural Control Lab as an MSc. Student with his research focused on using various technologies to assist in the performance assessment of upper limb prosthetic devices. Over the years, Ewen has volunteered with a number of organizations around Edmonton, and continues to assist the Steadward Bears Paraswimming Program, as well as the Paediatric Rehabilitation Unit at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. Ewen is passionate about science, education, and creating positive situations and environments for individuals to grow, be challenged, and pursue their goals. When not in the lab, Ewen is either swimming, cycling, throwing a Frisbee, reading, or taking a photo.
